FAQs
Are your oats organic?
+
Yes. Our oats are glyphosate-free and certified organic.
Is Maker gluten-free?
+
Yup! Our milk is gluten-free. Oats do contain a protein called avenin that some with high sensitivity to gluten may also react to.
What is rapeseed protein?
+
Rapeseed protein comes from the seeds of a flowering member of the Brassica family. Our rapeseed protein is glyphosate-free and non-GMO, and it’s one of the cleanest, most bioavailable plant proteins on the market, meaning our protein is more readily absorbed by the body than most other plant proteins including pea, hemp, oat, and nut proteins.
Rapeseed oil, which comes from the same plant, can be inflammatory in the gut (especially if extracted with solvents like hexane), but our protein contains no rapeseed oil. In fact, because our milk is made with heart-healthy avocado oil instead of industrial seed oils used by other plant milk brands, Maker is a lot easier on the body.
Where are your oats from?
+
Our organic, gluten-free oats are grown with pride in the US of A and are of the highest quality. The farmers who grow our oats are committed to responsible farming practices, and as a company we’re actively working toward more regenerative methods to protect and nurture our soil, water, and ecosystems.
What is allulose?
+
Allulose is a naturally occurring rare sugar found in small quantities in foods like figs, raisins, maple syrup, and wheat. It’s considered “rare” because of its unique molecular structure, compared to regular table sugar (sucrose).
It’s almost identical to regular sugar in taste and texture, but with only about 10% of the calories (just 0.4 calories per gram vs 4 calories for table sugar).
Allulose, which is a monosaccharide (single sugar molecule), isn’t metabolized in the same way as fructose or glucose, and much of it is excreted from the body without being broken down. As a result, allulose doesn’t raise body sugar or insulin levels like regular sugar does.
Can you foam it?
+
Baristas agree! Maker foams beautifully. It was formulated with your morning latte in mind.
Do you ship outside the US?
+
Currently, we only ship within the US.
Is Maker a New Zealand company?
+
Maker was conceived in New Zealand by two proud, oat-loving Kiwis, but we’re a US company, and Maker is sourced, produced and currently sold exclusively in the US. We do hope to be available in New Zealand at some point!
Is it normal for the milk to separate?
+
Natural separation may occur between uses. Conventional oat milk in a carton separates, too, you just can’t see it. Just give it a good shake! The longer your milk sits as a liquid, the less it will separate.
Can I scoop it right into my coffee or tea?
+
You sure can, although because Maker is formulated as a milk and not a creamer we recommend making the milk up first and adding liquid to hot beverages for best results.
That said, Maker does seem to be popular as a creamer, particularly for those on the go who might not have ready access to water. In the end, it’s largely a matter of personal preference.
Can I use Maker as baby formula?
+
No. Maker isn’t a suitable meal replacement for children under 12 months. However, because it has more protein than other plant milks it’s a great dairy alternative for kids aged 12 months and older as part of a nutritionally balanced diet.
Why no scoop?
+
Reducing waste is a big part or our core mission. We figure along with water and a bottle or jar, chances are you’ve got a tablespoon or another large spoon at home. Scoop away with whatever you’ve got!
What’s the shelf life?
+
An unopened pouch of Maker is shelf stable until the best before date, which should be at roughly a year and a half from purchase date. We’re a young company, and our ongoing third-party testing is expected to show an even longer unopened shelf life, making it great for long-term storage and emergency preparedness.
Once opened, keep your Maker well sealed in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, like a pantry cupboard. It should last at least a few months, depending on conditions.
Once you’ve made your milk up, keep it refrigerated and consume within 3-5 days. Separation will naturally occur. Just give it a good shake and enjoy!

What’s your packaging made of?
+
Our pouches are made or post-consumer recycled plastic (polyethylene) that would otherwise have been landfill and are BPA & BPS-free. Maker requires 90% less packaging than a carton of liquid milk!
Why not compostable packaging?
+
We’re big believers in composting food and other organic waste. Though some bioplastics (compostable packaging) can be composted at home with your food scraps, the kind of packaging required to protect the freshness (and shelf life) of our product would need to be composted under very specific conditions in an industrial composting facility. Due to a lack of infrastructure, among other things, most compostable packaging never finds its way to one of these facilities and instead ends up in a landfill generating methane (a major driver of climate change) along with the rest of our waste. We’re hopeful that in the not-too-distant future compostable packaging may be more viable, and it’s important to us that we continue to orient ourselves to the most sustainable packaging choices we can as a company as technology advances.
